Gut Permeability Test Results

The pandemic delayed my gut permeability test results, but it finally got back to me.

Not surprising, and yet shocking, the results were pretty bad:

“Very high intestinal permeability in the medium molecular sizes, with high risk of allergies, inflammatory processes, autoimmune processes and anaphylactic reactions. Seek medical attention.”

HISTORY

I have been dealing with autoimmunity on and off for the past five years (it used to go away in the summer and then during and post pregnancy). It manifests as Rheumatoid Arthritis and for the last couple of years, I had to put up with it regardless of the season.

It started slowly in my left arm and then progressed to elbows, wrists, and finger joints of both hands. Couple years later I started feeling it in the joints of my feet, knees and sometimes hips.

Even though daily activities became problematic including getting dressed and walking, I refused to take conventional treatments of hydroxychloroquine, methotrexate, steroid therapy, etc. While all these therapies actually do bring relief to the joints and slow down the deterioration of them, they didn’t address the root cause of the disease, and come with a lot of side effects. In fact, Rheumatoid Arthritis, belongs to the autoimmune disease category, where your body is thought to attack its own joint tissue, and is classified as idiopathic (unknown causes) in origin.

MY JOURNEY

The idiopathy of Rheumatoid Arthritis set me on the journey to actually find the true origin of this disease. Through many, I mean many, trials and errors, I found a clinic, Paleomedicina (www.paleomedicina.com) in Hungary that was treating all kind of chronic diseases including autoimmunity. Their research led them to conclude that gut permeability is actually at the center of all autoimmune diseases.

To diagnose, they use PEG 400 test along with other needed lab work, and based on the results, recommend a diet and lifestyle regimen to address the leaky gut and thus the chronic disease. Below you can see the results of my tests.  It shows how much PEG 400 sugar leaked through my gut and was recovered in urine. As seen in the chart, my results are way outside the normal range.

MY GUT PERMEABILITY TEST RESULTS

I got really sad when I saw the results, but at the same time it motivated me to make necessary changes to my diet and lifestyle. Giving up of coffee was one of those habits that had to change.

Next one up is my diet.
